Thong, G-string, tanga: what's what

The names overlap, and they don't mean the same on both sides of the Atlantic.

• Thong: a narrow strip of fabric at the back, a normal waistband at the front.
• G-string: the narrowest thong, often just a string at the sides and back. It has its own entry in the listing's Cut field, so some sellers list it under that name instead.
• Tanga: in British English, narrow sides and more fabric behind than a thong. In the US the word is rare, so ask which shape she means.
• Cheekster and Brazilian: fuller at the back than any thong, less than a classic brief.

The photos settle any doubt. If they don't, the label slot usually shows the brand's own name for the cut.

Cotton or lace?

A thong uses very little fabric, so the fabric is most of what you are choosing. Most thongs here are cotton, then lace. Cotton takes up about twenty times more moisture than polyester in the reference values textile labs use, and in a controlled study cotton T-shirts were rated milder after exercise than polyester ones. Lace is usually synthetic yarn and keeps the character of worn panties more strongly. Mild or intense: the Fabric field tells you which you're getting.

Questions

Is a thong priced differently?

No. In euros, thongs ask €25 at the median, the same level as the other cuts in the Drawer Report: asking prices on live listings, not sales. The cut hardly moves the typical price; the pricing guide explains what does.

What does "Worn for" mean on a thong listing?

How many days she wears the thong before it's packed, from one to seven. "Ask me" means she tells you when you ask in your order request; what to ask a seller covers the rest.

Which size should I ask for?

Listings use XS to XXL, while UK and US brands use their own numbers. Ask for the size on the tag.
