About this selection

What lace is made of

Lace is a structure, not a fibre. On underwear it is often nylon or polyester with a little elastane for stretch, and many lace panties have a cotton lining in the middle. The care label says which; if the listing doesn't, ask her.

The yarn decides how lace wears. In a controlled study, polyester T-shirts were rated less pleasant and more intense after exercise than cotton ones, and a second study, on fabric samples, linked intensity to fibre type rather than to the number of bacteria. Lace made from synthetic yarn behaves like the polyester: it keeps the character of worn panties more strongly than cotton. Here, lace turns up most in thongs and Brazilian briefs.

Lace after it arrives

Lace is one of the most delicate fabrics on the site, and it has opinions about washing machines. To keep it as it came, leave it in its sealed bag, somewhere cool and dark, and open the bag as rarely as you can. To wash it, read the label: one bar under the tub means a gentle cycle, two bars a very gentle one, and the hand means at most 40 °C by hand, without wringing. A mesh wash bag protects the edges. Keeping worn panties covers bags and the freezer.

Questions

Is lace more expensive than cotton?

No. In euros, lace listings ask €25 at the median and cotton listings €25: asking prices on live listings, not sales. The typical price hardly depends on fabric.

Which size should I ask for?

Listings use XS to XXL; UK and US brands use their own numbers. Ask her for the size on the tag before you agree.

Can she ship lace abroad?

Ask her. Into the US, duties apply whatever the value, and something you bought is never a gift. The shipping guide has the rest.
