A G-string has a triangle of fabric at the front, a thin string around the hips and a string at the back. A thong is its nearest relative and keeps a strip of fabric at the back plus a proper waistband. Brands do not always draw the line in the same place, and some sell a G-string as a string thong.
On panty.com the two have separate entries in the Cut field, so a seller chooses one or the other. Her photos show which shape you are really looking at. A picture of the back, laid flat, settles it.
Why the front panel matters
With so little material, nearly everything you receive is that front panel. Its fabric is therefore worth a question. Cotton is soft and absorbent, lace is light and open, and smooth synthetics sit somewhere else again. Many G-strings mix them: a lace front with a cotton lining, for example. If the Fabric field names only one, ask her what the lining is made of.
Strings are usually elastic and adjust to the wearer, so size matters less here than on a full brief. Listings still state it, from XS to XXL.
